customising your bertleys

Leather Types

When buying your Bertleys, you’ll have the option of choosing between five outer leather options. These options are broken down into 3 types; full-grain leather, Suede and NuBuck.

BERTLEYS

Full-grain Leather

Full-grain leather is the highest quality of leather you can find. It is the outer layer of the hide that has not been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections. Full-grain leather is prized for its natural grain and texture, which gives it a distinctive look and patina that develops over time.

Bertleys full-grain leather comes in black, dark brown and light brown (Salvador). The light brown (Salvador) full-grain leather is a matte leather that shows its natural grain and texture more.Β

Suede Leather

Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of the hide, giving it a soft surface. Suede is softer and thinner leather. It is not as strong as full-grain, traditional leather.

Suede is usually treated as a luxury material; while it lacks the durability of normal leather, it is much softer to the touch and more comfortable when worn against the skin.

Bertleys suede leather comes in brown.

NuBuck Leather

NuBuck is a full-grain leather with a surface that’s been gently brushed and buffed. Unlike suede’s plush feel or smooth leather’s sheen, NuBuck boasts a frosted, velvety texture reminiscent of peach fuzz. Its matte finish and slight nap make it tough yet tender.

As NuBuck is a soft and durable luxury leather, it is very similar to suede. It has a history of glamour and aristocracy, but these days it is mostly commonly associated with high-quality footwear. NuBuck is soft, with a velvety texture, and is very durable.
