Caring for your Bertleys
Leather Care
1. Remove Dirt and Dust
-
Use a soft brush or dry cloth to wipe off any dirt, dust, or mud.
-
Pay attention to seams and soles where debris collects.
2. Wipe with a Damp Cloth
-
Dampen a clean cloth with lukewarm water (not soaking).
-
Gently wipe the boots to remove surface grime.
-
Let them air dry completely before the next step (avoid direct sunlight or heaters).
3. Clean with Leather Cleaner or Mild Soap
-
Apply a leather cleaner (or mix a drop of mild soap with water).
-
Use a soft cloth or sponge to rub gently in circular motions.
-
Wipe away residue with another damp cloth.
-
Dry fully with a towel.
4. Condition the Leather
-
Apply a leather conditioner to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking.
-
Use a small amount on a soft cloth and work it into the leather evenly.
-
Leave for a few minutes, then buff lightly with a clean cloth.
5. Polish (Optional for Shine)
-
Use a black shoe polish or cream if you want to restore shine and cover scuffs.
-
Apply in small circular motions with a soft cloth or applicator brush.
-
Let it sit for 10 minutes, then buff with a horsehair brush or soft cloth until glossy.
Extra Tips:
-
Always test products on a small hidden area first.
-
Store boots with shoe trees or stuffed with newspaper to keep their shape.
-
Clean regularly, but condition only every few weeks to avoid over-saturating.
